Worlds Longest Zip Line
Along with the Catalan firm Zip-trans Systems SL, Jonathan Méndez is putting together an adventurous proposal like no other—to create a crazy long zip line and bring it right here to Nerja. And if the proposal is approved by the council and goes ahead? It will be the longest zip line in the entire world.
The current title for the world’s longest zip line is held by Dubai, which holds a zip wire that is 2,850 metres long. But the Nerja zip line would overshadow this one, with plans to cover 3,125m of route, starting at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level.
Entrepreneur Jonathan Méndez explained that the estimated investment in the project would be around half a million euros:
“We are working on all the technical studies, and in a few months we will present them to the town hall,” he said, “so that it supports us and manages it before the Junta de Andalucía, since it is a protected environment.”
Because if the longest zip wire in the world is coming to Nerja, then it needs to be constructed in a way that won’t have any negative impact on the environment.
“It is time for these spaces to be well controlled and managed,” said Méndez, “especially with innovative elements such as a zip line taking over the one in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
According to Méndez, the project would be combined with the tourist offering in the area, such as a visit to the Cueva de Nerja, where vehicles could depart to access the zip line exit.
“We intend to value, enhance and help improve the natural resourced that Nerja has with leisure and tourism proposals,” he said. “In a way that is compatible with and respectful of the environment.”
